Okay, now this brings me to a totally new question, while I'm seeing all those pics...
How did you guys install an '07 grill on a '99-'04 Excursion?
What kind of modifications did you have to do?
How difficult was the install?
Now you got me all excited and fired up about some mods!
I guess I'll have to decide this soon, before ordering any new headlights - which still brings me back to my original question about the LED light strip lights you guys installed...
Were they a perfect fit, or did you have to do any modifications/cutting/dremeling/etc.?
How did you hook up the LED light strip? Parking lights?
Thanks!
Andy
I'm not sure I like the look of the LED-style lites - a little to 'tuner' for me. I would definately have them on with parking lites. I have some LED 'driving lites' under the new bumper (not in the pic) and have them on a 3 way switch. On - Off - On w/parking lites. Not much lite persay, but bright as hell looking straight on. Between them and the big honkin' bumper, people don't seem to pull out in front of me very often
I paid $155 for the '07 headlites in the pic. Look for sellers who include the 'pigtail' - they use a different plug for headlite bulb.
I know there are a few really good write-ups for '05-'07 upgrade, I'm sure someone who has'em bookmarked will post a link. I damaged the grill, a headlite and the header panel - so I just had body shop re-install the new-style parts (they cost the same!). The best/easiest way is to upgrade the header panel - the fiberglass part in front of radiator that the grill/lites attach to, then just bolt on the new stuff. If you keep your current bumper, you'll need to cut down the grill to fit (cut down grills were avail. on fleabay for a long time?). You can buy a complete kit w/bumper and all fasteners (everything) to perform the swap w/new, OE parts for about $1300. powerstrokeshop.com
I have the 05 grille on my 2000 Ex and the Hid Headlights and Hid Fogs were easy with no trimming or modifications.
Then Hid Headlight took about 30mins or so only because I didn't have self tapping metal screws but beside that finding a location for the ballasts were the something to think about. I can take some pics if you want. Did you look at my gallery?
I didn't know what your prior post meant by "LED light strips," but I think you mean the 6 little mini lights in between the running lights and headlights. This is a single fixture - it's all one piece, the mini's are part of it. Actually - one of my mini LED bulbs burnt out but the folks already sent me a few replacements - it's been too cold to try to figure out how to put it in yet. I bought exactly what BAJI did - from eBay, then added the hi-lo HID function from another place -- he put HID fogs in his but I didn't, I overkilled with the KC's across the front and moved two larger fogs I had down to my brush guard underneath because when we put the front receiver hitch on the factory fogs were rendered worthless.
I will look for exactly what I ordered and from who and PM it over to you, I think it's probably still in my messages from when BAJI told me....
I've had the 'projector' style aftermarket lenses in other applications, mostly just plastic chinese junk. Even if they put out more usable lite, they are often difficult to fit and aim and generally look like poo after a couple years.
I put '05-'07 headlites in my F350 recently. I still think the '03 clear lens w/relay harness and Hella 80/100 bulbs put out more usable lite. One big problem is stock harness routes small (18ga?) wire from fuse block all the way up into steering column and then to lites - often a 2v drop!! A relay harness that takes power straight from battery to headlites (10ga wire) solves this and makes a VERY noticeable difference. I get my relay harnesses ($70ish?) and Hella bulbs ($30ish/pair!) from rallylites.com - great folks too.
If ya need more light than that, add additional lites!! These are aircraft landing lites - OMG, are they brite and focused. They made the road signs reflection annoying!! Wish they worked on my new bumper...
Another bitch about the '05-'07 is the 9008/H13 bulb has tiny pins to connect to harness. High wattage bulbs not recommended. They do have a nice, broad lite pattern with stock-type bulbs though..
Here's the new style lites (and grill) in my '01:
i was wondering about the comments you made about the relay harness and hella bulbs a few days ago. i have a 2004 F-250 and i'm looking to try and get more light cause stock the light sucks. i have silverstar ultras now...what type of "harness" would i need to get to make sure they are getting full power? and are the hellas brighter?

would HID be the best thing to do for more light out of my stock headlights? i have a '04 f250. what "k" would be the best?
BAJI126, actually most factory HID's are within the range of 4500kelvin. below 4000k is when you get the yellow. from 4000k-5500k is the white range and the 5000k-6000k is getting to the blue tint. also, the 4500k has the most light output measured in lumins.
just remember, putting hid's into a reflector housing that was meant for halogen bulbs will just throw the light in every direction. using a projector will direct the light onto the ground where it is meant to be. thus, giving the driver the most useable light. most dont understand this. when you look at a vehicle that has those "KITS" in them, yes they look way brighter. its because they are not producing the useable light. I HAVE BEEN THERE AND DONE THAT..... its not the way to go. but, if it works for the person who wants to do it, just make sure that they aim the lights correctly. and that doesnt mean that since they were aimed correctly with the halogens that it will be ok for the hid's.

The 'harness' is a plug and play way to add relays that deliver full battery power to headlights. The stock (skinny) wires take the loooong way from battery to dash up steering column and all the way out to lites - up to 2v drop. The relays allow fat wires to go short distance from battery to lites and only use stock wires to 'trigger' relays. This, by itself, will make a big difference in light output. I really, really like the harness from rallylights.com and I'm picky so I was gonna build my own. GREAT folks and they build these in-house. Now I've bought 2 of theirs and most of my friends now have them - you'll see why!
Yes, the 80/100 hellas are brighter - alot brighter. Without annoying other drivers like the stupid, obnoxious, overpriced HID 'kits'. The optics in factory housing (especially the later-model clear lens) are actually pretty good. They disperse the lite where you want/need it, while 'cutting off' the light where ya don't - specifically the retina's of oncoming drivers like me. In 2.5 yrs, I have yet to be 'bright-lighted' by oncoming driver who thought my brights were on. I swear I never wanted more lite. (these '05 - '07 housings and silverstars SUCK by comparison!)
Listen, I know its human nature to justify your decisions - and you'll see alot of 'defense' from the HID crowd, but the fact is the usable light output is less and the annoyance to other drivers is inconsiderate. Seriously, if your stock lights ain't brite enough, add fogs and/or driving lites! At least then you can choose not to annoy others...
I always put my driving lites (or aircraft lites!) on a 3 way switch. On - Off - On w/hi-beams. That way i can quickly turn them off w/o blinding people. (except maybe the HID-in-a-stock-housing folks! )
