I need to make a new front bumper for my 1980 f150. Does anyone know where I can get some solid steel bars and other materials necessary?
(I want to make this thing bullet proof and tree proof)
i smoked a deer at 110 kmh didn't put a scratch on this bumper.got to get a winch for it. brother inlaw made it and gave it to me.had to use engine hoist to lift it into place, make brackets and bolt it on.but need to get better springs or air bags to get the front end back up .
Dang Thats a nice one. Thats about what I need for my truck. is it bolted right on to the frame?
I should have been more clear. I do alot of muddy trail riding with this truck and I have slipped off of trails several times and hit small trees and recently a huge oak. My brush guard is custom made but only covers the center grill. I might just weld some more bars onto it and reinforce it more and then get another stock front bumper.
yea it's bolted to the frame in the same holes the bumper bolted to.have to figure a way to reinforce it.there isn't much space with the leaf springs up front.will figure it out and post pics when it's done
Hmm. Do you want this to look good? or just be functional? Because I have seen people weld huge I-beams to the front of their truck in place of a bumper. I'm guessing you could run through a tank with that.
That is what I wanted to do originally DirtStripHero. At first I didn't care for looks just protection, I will look into building something similar to the bumper on the link that bashby sent me. I guess I will try to figure out the cost of materials and how much time this is going to take me. If doing it right seems like it is going to be way to much work I will probably take the easy way out because I need this bumper pretty soon. Were could I get some I-beams though? and how much do they run?
