I have never seen one of the deck setups on a 1/2 ton. You see a lot of them around here on 3/4 and 1 ton trucks with long beds, but I have never seen one on a 1/2 ton. If your truck has a short bed, like most F150s, I doubt this would work. I would recomend getting a trailer, that is a lot of weight to be putting on the back of a 1/2 ton.

Where are you from? Around here, 1/2 tons with decks attract the DOT like bees to honey. That being said, the new F150, if it is a long box, is getting close to being able to legaly haul a couple of sleds. That being said, once you add gear, passengers, gas, snow buildup, etc . . ., you will most likely be over weight. Helper springs or air bags make them ride level, but the GVWR does not change.

i am from alberta, i will not have problem here but if i go to bc i might run into trouble. i am thinking of buying a 09 f150 with the 6.5 box. payload in over 3000Lbs and gvw is supposed 8200 withe heavy duty tow package. so i think it would be close

The problem is that all the weight will be on your rear axle (cg of deck will probably be behind your rear axle). Even a long box does not get much weight on the front axle. The DOT mans the border pretty much steady because of all the things Albertans (not meant as an insult) try to bring accross the border.

The deck is way easier. Last weekend, I had to park in snow up to my reciever hitch and it wasn't powder either. If you are a little over weight, you could add air bags to level things out, that way the DOT may not notice you.
