backup light switch
2005 explorer, good fuse and the backups don't work. I ordered a part from Ford and got this part

but I think I need this part

Which one is it and where is the second one located, on what side of the tranny and is it way up high?

The closest factory wiring diagrams that i have are for my 97 Ex, yours is probably wired the same.
On my 97 the backup lights are wired to the "digital transmission range sensor" which plugs into the drivers side of the transmission & -at least on the 97- has an 11 wire connector.
The trans speed sensor in your 1st link is not what you need & I could'nt pull up your 2nd link .

Well, go figure, I cant pull up your autzone link either.
As they say a picture is worth a thousand words & if you stop by a Ford dealer parts department they can pull up a picture showing the location of the DTRS.
Since the fuse isnt blown it looks like a busted wire or bad DTRS/digital trans range sensor.
On the 97 the DTRS for the 4R70 & 5r55 trannsmissions is at the drivers side bottom of the trans. Dont know if yours is the same.
Have you looked at your trans?

Yeah, the sensor on the drivers side bottom of the first picture matches the picture that I have in the 97 factory wiring diagrams
