You don't need a new gasket nor do you need a internal transmission filter. Wipe out the magnet inside the pan, it usually has a little gray muck on it from the steel components wearing from normal use.
Thank you guy's for all your help and input! I replaced the expensive little plastic TFT Sensor (lol... $83). It was the culprit. I drove around this morning for a while and let the tranny get up to operating temp and no issues at all. I replaced the pan gasket since the original one was leaking a little on the rear side and also the external filter. The fluid smelled sweet like the new fluid I added plus the color was just slightly darker than the new stuff.
Was your face clear when you pulled the sensor out? I almost got it by not expecting any additional fluid drain.
Thanks to you I kept it out of the way!! lol If you hadn't of said anything I would have been wearing hot tranny fluid. I did notice the new sensor felt kind of loose... I did put the sensor in and gave it a quarter of a turn but it didn't feel tight. Oh well but it seems to be working just fine. Thanks again!
Well after reading this post it let me know what was wrong with my truck.On my way to work last week my tow/haul light started flashing and my trans temp gage went to "0". I read this post and took a chance,went and bought one ($75.89) at the dealership. Had to go back to get fluid. Thats the only place to get Mercon SP. Took about an hour to change out and im happy to say that was the problem. It took 9 Quarts of fluid at $5.79 a quart but it is all working good now. Thanks for all your info.
