I want to get my original geometry back and still have the leveling kit installed. I know if I get a true suspension lift I will achieve better geo.. but Firestone said I could get a kit installed and it would save me from having to go higher. I just don't want to have to sacrifice parking outside.
the only way to get back to OEM geometry on the caster/camber components will be to remove your leveling kit. a leveling kit places things out of spec, but there is enough play in there that a competant shop should be able to get it back within specifications
what exactly is the issue? I've had my 2.5" installed for 2 yrs now with 0 problems on the alignment...is your alignment not correct?
They said that the camber is out of line as per the digital readout/print out. Both 4 wheel parts and Firestone recommend it to bring it closer to spec. My tires scalloped but I think that's because the struts were shot. I just replaced them, but even then the inside of the tire was wearing rather quickly.
Weird thing is that one tech told me it doesn't matter because my footprint was large enough not to matter, while everybody else tells me otherwise.
Hopefully it was just that my shocks were shot....my college student status didn't let me change my factory shocks until just now at 102.5k on the clock...
did you ever get an alignment done after installing your leveling kit?
scalloping tires is exactly what these trucks do without a proper alignment...I drove about 1,000 miles before getting an alignment and my tires had noticeably worn on the outer edges.
all the techs have to do is go in and adjust the camber...I didn't even mention I had a leveling kit.
Just said it needed an alignment and they did their magic...again, that was 2 yrs ago and 0 problems since.
Have the techs even tried aligning it yet, or are they just trying to sell you a part before trying?
BatteriesNotINCL,
Moog makes a K80087 Caster/camber bolt kit which consist of new bolts, eccentric cam washer, guides, lock nut, etc. This makes it easier to set the alignment. If you have 102.5K it would not hurt to use them. It's not an absolutely necessity but it makes it a lot easier to set the alignment.
well i know when i did my alignment on my truck ...when i set it up it said ever thing was out ...but when i adjusted the toe back in everthing came back to specs but the camber and caster are just in spec not by much ..so i figured if i ever had a tire wear issue i would get a camber kit
but napa does sell them their around 50 bucks a side i think ..they make camber kits for anything but soild axle trucks in the rear
