Electrical Problem - Starting - Hot ground cable
First of all, it has to crank for longer than average to get it started. If I cycle the glow plugs more than once (ie.failed start) my batteries become sooo weak they'll barely start the truck. Most importantly, I can smell burning from under the hood that would appear to be comming from a ground strap on the back of the passenger side of the engine compartment.
The batteries are brand new, I replaced them because I thought that they were my problem...not!
Battery cables are all in good shape too.
Any thoughts??
You might have a bad battery (eventhough it's new)
One or more battery cable(s) are internally faulty, the terminals are internally corroded,
there may be a weak connection at the frame.
The starter might be faulty.
you have many possibilities, you might have to do some more poking around testing the cables, batteries and starter.
This only seems to happen when I'm using my command-start. I was thinking of maybe adjusting my timer settings on my remote starter. But I don't know where it is or how to change it. I bought the truck second-hand and I have no info on the system.
Is there a spot where these things commonly get installed?
