beard trimming?

I am thinking about letting my goatee grow into a beard. I want to keep it well trimmed, maybe a weeks growth. What do you guys that have beards do to keep the lines straight when you cut it where you don't want hair to grow? I want to have a straight line from the bottom of my ear to the corner of my mouth, and I want the hair on my neck to be a definite line a couple inches below my jaw bone. I am worried about keeping the cut lines straight. any pointers would be appreciated.

I have a rechargeable mini trimmer...I can't remember the brand, but it has several attachments with it (adjustable timmer, nose hair trimmer, etc). I use it without any attachments at all to "shave" and it takes me down to very short stubble which is how I like it.

It's also good to trimming/evening up the edges along my goatee, I really like it for that.

My little rechargeable is a Philips. It does a pretty good job, and came with a whole slew of attachments. I went the full beard route once, but my facial hair is light and slow growing, after a while I went back with the goat, although larger this time.

I can't imagine trimming the goat without one of these little things.

What I did when I had a full beard was to let it grow out for a week or so, then used my trimmer to clean off what hair I did'nt want around my neck. But, I did'nt go as high up as I wanted it to end up being with the trimmer. I went to the barbershop and had him trim it up there, since it was a lot easier than trying to do it myself while looking in a mirror. After that, I was able to shave off where I did'nt want the beard to grow, and it ended up looking neat and well-kept. Did the same thing when I went the opposite of what you're wanting to do (from a full beard to a goatee). With the barber doing the work, it came out balanced, and from there was fairly easy to maintain.

I have a Remmington rechargeable it has a two trimmer attatchments with guards to adjust the hair length. I really like it, it even has a small razor attatchment that works pretty well. As for the edges go, I have my wife do mine, I never get them even.

I used to have a beard and found out that it was just as much work keeping it trimmed and looking good as it was to shave.
I used a set of hair trimmers from walmart when it got too long for my liking and I used a regular razor to keep my neck and other areas "clean" of hair.

I just let my barber do it for me,,,,, Yea I'm lazy, BUT,,, For what I pay for the haircut anyway it's worth it to let Bruce trim it!

Any hair trimmer with a #1 or #2 comb, depending on how long you want it. As for the defined line, the same razor you used to shave with works fine.

(35 year beard bearer, except a few short periods)

(defining the line gets old fast. If I wanted to do all that maintenance, I wouldn't bother keeping a beard)
