I recently purchased on 05 F-250 which is equipped with a reverse sensing system, which does not seem to be working. Whenever I put the truck into reverse the "off" light comes on, indicating a malfunction. Is there something easy i can check before I ask the dealer to look at it? Is this system worth fixing or is it one of those systems that never work well?
Also, How hard is it to change the heating element on the front drivers seat? The dealer I bought the truck from is mailing me the part as they are quite a ways from me, and supposedly did not know they did not work when I bought the truck. The tech said the back heating element was working but it does not seem to get very warm. Any advice is appreciated.
The reverse monitor system is one of those things you don't miss or really don't notice to much....until it doesn't work.....and you realize that it isn't working. As for having it fixed at the dealer, unless it is covered under a warranty...you could buy one of those rear view back up camera systems for less money out of pocket than the dealer will charge to just trouble shoot the system. The camera system also makes it a breeze to hook up to a trailer hitch.
If you're under warranty, take it back and get it fixed. It is a good system, just don't get complacent or you'll hit something..lol. If you're not under warranty, it's a crap shoot. See how much your dealer will charge for checking / diagnosing it and go from there.
The seat heaters are not too bad. Had mine replaced under warranty and to be honest, they weren't that great from the time they were new. MAN, the new ones will roast you out. Mine must have been bad from the start. Anyways, I was in the shop when the tech did mine. He had both front seats done in about 2 hours.
