I was skeptical as to the functionality of this mod, especially after I took the grill off and saw how much room there is underneath for pulling air into the intake. My aftermarket front bumper allows even more gaps and cracks for air to come through. But, I cut about a 2x4" hole in the fiberglass blocker plate just below the level of the intake to allow it to suck air but not give water a straight shot into the intake. By damn, it might be my imagination but seemed like the truck ran better this morning. I could feel it pulling air through the hole at idle - that's straight cold air from outside and not recycled air from under the hood.
So for others who have done this, did you do anything with the hose that comes off the top of the air filter housing and just sorta hangs out underneath the hood? Block it off or route it to a hole in front to get more cold air?

did you feel any more performance? Thinking about doing this since it is fairly cheap and easy to do plus im short on money and need another mod to do b4 i get some money back
From what I have heard it does not mean anything, but different people's opinion differ. Not really sure myself. Seemed to me that opening up air to the intake would create a different back pressure.
When I cut out for my ZooDad, I made a small metal frame with 1/4" wire mesh to keep any large object and most bugs out. We all 'think' we see a difference after any mod, but in reality I don't think I saw any difference. I've been running with it like this for over a year, no issues. The way I see it, there are 2 benefits: 1) The shape of the grill actually creates a slight ram air, so a little more air pressure coming in the front; and 2) The air is cooler (not coming up from under the truck which is near the engine and off the hot pavement). This could result in lower EGT. I think any performance improvements would be negligable in reality.

I did mine this Saturday and just like Ez FORD said dont really know what improvements so far, but!! I can say this I did notice a whole lot better acceleration and it seemed to spool up faster. And the lie-o-meter moves a hell of alot quicker. But I did one thing different I cut mine the same size as the intake input.I plan on putting a screen over the big ol hole to keep bugs out.It does the same thing that people spend 2-500 dollars for the cold air intake but only better factory filter and less crap hitting the high dollar turbo!!!ZOODAD !!!!
If you go to search option on top and type zoodad mod.You will find all kinds of picture's and all the other threads on this mod IT"S REALLY EASY AND CHEAP!!
