As long as your power source shuts off with the key, you can make a single relay come on with the push button, but stay on until the key shuts off. To do this you get power to the push button from the 12V switched power. You attach the output of the push button to the 12V supply of the relay coil. You also run a wire from the output of the relay to the 12V supply of the relay coil.
With the key on, you push the button, which closes the relay. With the button released, the relay coil now gets it's power from the output side of the relay. It stays engaged until you turn off the key, removing the power source. When you turn the key on again, you must push the button in order to get the relay to close again.
I have not figured out how to post a wiring diagram, but you electrical engineers out there may be able to make up one.
This also can be accomplished on the ground side of the relay coil, but in a different manner.
Thanks Pop & Chris. I forget just how sofisticated some crooks are, but typically anything to slow them down will cause them to move on to another target.
i would like to do something like the idm kill switch. does anyone have instructions for a simplified one using a toggle switch or a momentary hidden somewhere?
I have a DP Tuner w/ no start, I accidentally got it in the no-start setting and had a hard time figuring out how to get it out! Is this sufficient to deter most thieves?
