I have a 99F350 ex-cab 4x4 dually with the 7.3 PSD. This truck eats tires. Mosts sets I was lucky to get 10k. I have 20k on this set, their about shot. These are Kelly Safari MSR 235/85/16. I guess my question is is that normal for these trucks? I do haul alot & get off road,so I need a tire with an open tread(not a street tire). Any suggestions on a good tire would be helpful. Thanks
There's over 30K on my BFG All Terrain KO's right now and they have 6/32" left of treadwear. I've got a buddy that runs the same tires on his Quad Cab Dodge Cummins truck and he gets over 40K out of both set's he's ran on his truck. They seem to really hold up over mileage. We both run the E rated tires if that matters.
I agree with jdboy that BFG's are a good tire. Don't know allot about Kelly, but if they are wearing fast I would definitely switch brands to get more mileage out of them. As for your tires now they should be "E" rated, but if not that could be your problem with wear. Check around, and stay away from soft compound tires. Last thing is make sure you are not getting an old set of tires. On the tires is a DOT stamp with 3 or 4 numbers at the end. Those are the date of manufacturing ie. 1006 is the 10th week of 2006. Tires will fail as they get older. Hope this helps.
The kelly tires I have are load range E. I've heard that the BFG's tend to seperate under heavy loads,Happend to a friend of mine. Thats a problem I don't want with 20k behind me. I've been told by sum that a dually is hard on tires,in their words "thats the nature of the beast"
