1. Does a working temp gauge start out on H and then down to C?
2. Ammeter looks inductive (cable near gauge). The path of the wire is important I assume. What is the correct wire travel path?
Hi John Fin.
Yes and Yes!
A working temp guage will park on "H" (hot) with the ignition off then move to "C" (cold), or the engines actual temp when you turn on the key.
The Ammeter is an inductive loop type and the wire running through it starts on the battery post of your voltage regulator, runs to the circuit breakers on the instrument panel, then through the loop, to the battery post of the starter solenoid - if you have a stock wiring and charging system - 6 Volt DC, Positive Ground.
If you change to 12 volt it still works. But with the change to negative ground, you need to reverse the direction the wire flows through the loop.
