Finished Installing Radio
My dad got me a decent Kenwood head unit and speakers for my birthday last summer. Today I finally got around to finish installing it all.
Yes, I did cut a big rectangle hole in an otherwise virgin dashboard to install that brand-new ugly Kenwood unit!
It certainly sounds pretty good, and now the truck is so much more enjoyable just to sit in!

For shame! Right now I'm doing the exact opposite to my truck, just finished welding in a patch. Oh well, to each their own I suppose. I'm planning to mount my radio in a removable console-type box just in front of the seat.

Mine came with a radio, but I'll probably leave it and hide a new one somewhere. 1 15" speaker or 2 12" speakers should make me happy. Plan on taking out the air vents and installing some small speakers down there. Will also likely try to get a new speaker in the original dash location. May hide some small tweeters somewhere also. Music should be felt, lol.

Yep, to each his own. I kinda figured if I ever wanted to make it look stock again, how hard is it really to just patch up the hole and smooth it out?
Like you said Faber, if its your truck and you like it, why not? Doesn't bother me that much, plus that spot on the dash just plainly lends itself to fitting a head unit. Keeps stuff tucked in, clean, and accessible.

Matt2491; did you save the cut out panel protion, if so then you can probably re-weld it in if you desire to later. Hows the Stereo sounds? That one looks like the one I plan on getting for my daughter's 78 model this spring; after I finish with paint & body resto.
I guess I'm old school or just old; I place a (am/fm 8 track) in my originial hole slots in my 65 model; no cutting necessary, and hung some basic square box speakers under the front part of my seat with zip ties.

Sure Redmanbob, I'll send you the original. PM sent.
Photography is a hobby you could say. Never been to school or taken any classes for it, but I think it comes naturally for me. Actually, filmmaking is my forte, but photography is obviously related.
Yeah I keep all the metal I cut out, so its all here and it'd be easy to weld em back in.
Honestly, the stereo sound from this basic setup sounds just great! I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the sound filled the cab. And it doesn't really sound any weirder no matter where you sit. For an old clunky truck, its more than enough to fit the bill.

Most people can't look at everyday things like that and see that view....until someone like you shows it to them.

I'm not an arty kinda guy, but some things I just know I like....and I like your work.
I'd hope to see some $ in your future for your work....looks good.
Thinking about some schooling on photo. or maybe keepn' it as a trade on the side? Or what ya thinking?
I know somebody with a clue has had to say something about options....
