How does the locking mechanism work? Is just a keyed lock? Does it use one of those standard, small Master Lock keys that all harware stores carry blanks for, so making a duplicate is easy?
It uses one of the standard little master lock keys, so yes you can get duplicates made almost anywhere. The key inserts into the side of the handcuff clasp to open and lock it.

Sorry for the delay. I've been a little under the weather. Here's the pic of the key hole on the side of the cuff.
Ed, I'd like to buy one next month, or possibly April, since I'm also saving for a 1.15 GTP 38R housing, but only if you can guarantee I'll receive the same style as pictured on your website.
Chris, why does yours and the one listed on Ed's website look different?
The one on the website looks like it has a tie down loop built into the side, which yours doesn't seem to have.

Thanks for pointing that out Stewart. I sent Ed a link to the above pic when I first saw it from Ford and never noticed that part.
That tie down hook on the side would be the one I removed to bolt this in place. All I need to do is screw my old tie down hook back into the holes provided in the front or back and I bet it will fit. I couldn't figure out why it came with hose 4 screws and the 2 plates, since the plates are only covers. Removing them does nothing. I guess that's the locations available if you want to keep your tie down hook.

Gotcha.
Yours is still a little different in appearance, but I guess instead of providing a recessed space to re-mount your tie-down hook in the middle of the unit (like in Ed's pic), yours has removable plates on the front and rear portion of the unit.
I use my tie-downs a lot and wouldn't want to lose any of them.
so its almost 200 bucks for a lock? If it were a cargo strap type of thing I could understand, but that seems like alot of money for a lock. Especially with how easy it is to cut a cable.
Where did you come up with that price? Ed's website lists it for $125.
And yeah, cables can be cut, but this keeps people from just hopping in the back and transferring my generator or pressure washer or chop saw, etc. into another truck while I'm inside Home Depot buying more stuff.
I don't see this as a high security feature meant to keep stuff safe in your truck while you sleep. To me, it's more peace of mind knowing someone can't just grab something from the back of my truck as they walk by, while I'm in the store.

Do you know why Chris has a different style?

You'll have to wait till the end of the week before you hear from Ed. Someone decided to let him go on vacation.

As mentioned, it's $125, and if you know of a better option to lock down large items in the bed of the truck without having to fight getting a cable (harder to cut than chain) out of your toolbox, I'm all ears. I used to carry around a coated calbe and use one of those disc locks, but it seems like every tool I own got tangled up in the cable and it took 20 min. to get the cable out of the tool box, put the tools back in, lock the tool box back up, then finally start to chain down the stuff in the bed I wanted to.
The early picture is probably the prototype that they had for making the brochure. I'm sure the one that was received is the production version and how they all will look.
