OK after replacing everything else on the ignition system, and timing the truck with a light, when I go to drive it it no longer bucks, but it acts like someone is turning it on and off repeatedly, so I called a mechanic buddy of mine and he said it sounds like the timing gear might have jumped a degree or two. I dont wanna have to go ripping that motor back apart if its not the case but I cant think of anythign else that would make it do that
WHat do you mean by timing gear?I believe you have a chain Wich may have jumped but in your first post you say it acts like someone is turning it on and off repeatedly. I take that as its like the passenger is reaching over and turning the switch off and on. What kinda freqhency is it doing it, like you just turn it off and immediately back on every 5 minutes or second or random times? Maybe its like when you give it a lot gas it just dies (like the ignition was shu off) then comes back to life for a few seconds? I guess I'm tryin' to say " 'Splain Lucy "
you give it gas to get ti up to speed and it just momentarily dies, but then restarts. everytime you get into teh gas over 1/2 throttle or over 20 mph it breaks up like that... Also noticed im losing brake pressure all of a sudden too now
Wer'e playing thread tag arent we! A clogged cat will feel like a clogged fuel filter , just falls on its face when you try to accelerate... your engine vaccum drops off also, wich would explain the loss of power assist
thats exactly what it does... it falls flat on its face. Only dumb part is one of my converters is esy to get to to remove, but the primary is siamesed with the downpipes from the manifolds. I was thinking that myself too about the vaccum dropping off and loss of pedal pressure
Get your sawzall and hammer drill out, cut the pipe behind the cat then run a big long masonry bit up through the honeycomb to break it up, hammer and long chisel helps too. make sure you get it all out or it will break up und clog your muffler. You can start the truck up and rev it to blow out the chunks. Then weld pipes back together
I dont have to worry about the muffler seeing how the previous owner straight piped it. I have a nice piece of rebar that I can hammer into the cat to bust the honeycomb out, and a mig to put it all back togetherincluding the piece of pipe with the bung for the 02 sensor
My truck was non-cat factory, so I dont have to worry about it. I'm serious about the drill and masonry bit, you will wear yourself out with a hammer and rebar! That stuff is NOT easy to break up.
I've got a cracked driver side manaifold anyway so im going to replace with headers, but in the meantime I'll bust that out with a drill and see how she runs
