Brake Dust Plates...........?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 04-Jun-02 AT 07:08 AM (EST)] Hehe
I was reading an article the other day about how kids vandalized some cars by spraying paint on the Visible Disc Brake. Mine are very visible, this scared me a bit realizing how easily that could be done. Being that the plates are black, they should really asccent the chrome.

Brake Dust Plates...........?
Hi guys, we are a manufacturer of brake products and I thought I would send you some technical information on the question you posted...
The paint on the rotors is a much bigger problem than having it on the covers. The paint (petroleum based) will cook and turn to a residue that will affect braking torque... and this is very dangerous. There must be a continual metal to friction material (semi-metal) contact, if that changes there will be little or no braking action. As a side note, be careful with the spray tire washes, shiners and silicones that are out there. If you get them on the rotors when spraying the tire, the same brake problems will occur.
I had not heard of this problem with kids before but I am sure it is a real possibility. Better safe than sorry!
