My new 400 was pinging just a bit, I didnt want to back the timing off so i ended up going with a Mallory HEI setup. It looks great and works great, no more pinging. Only problem is my nice brand new Ford Racing aircleaner wont fit because the dist is too tall. For now I bought a smaller air cleaner, but i was wondering if there was any type of spacer to raise the air cleaner. I was told by a guy at work that mid 80's chevy pickups with a 350 quadrajet setup had a spacer under the aircleaner and i was thinking that should lift it up high enough. Any one else have any ideas?

 

You can buy the spacers to lift the cleaner up a bit. The problem lies in finding a good spacer. I had the same dilemma on a chevy I had, I could find plastic 1.5" spacers all day long but they are horrible because they get brittle and crack and pieces fall off. I just seen somewhere that had aluminium spacers but I can't for the life of me remember where I seen them.

 

Yep, I have been thinking about the mr gasket #9343, 2" spacers. The problem is i need like 3 5/8" so I would have to stack them. I think i would want to super glue or epoxy them together. And like you mentioned, they would get brittle and break. Lemme know if you think of the place that sells aluminum spacers. We keep some aluminum round tube in stock at work but i know for a fact we dont have any 5 1/8" O.D.

 

no no no get a offset aircleaner base you can find them at summit racing i had to do this with my smallblock and an HEI dissy

Thats exactly what i need except my FordRacing aircleaner is 13" that base is 14". Does anyone make one 13"??

 

Ebay has aluminum or steal spacers. I'll let you do the search, but I think I had previously found them under "air cleaner"
