I"ve been doing on research on the proform hei's and so far every thing i've heard about them is good they are just as good if not better then the daves DUI and cheaper to.
when I install my new cam i'm going with the proform hei 66969R.
well my dui is just awesome, it came curved to match my needs, and it runs like a champ. performance distributores were awesome to work with. i thought i was having a problem and they were all over it, and extremely helpful. they were prompt i ordered it and had it 3 days later. i will buy the distributors for my mopars from them also. in fact i am getting ready to order a set of there Hot wires for my 351. my money will just keep going to perf dist. not to mention they are site members, and cowboy up to help people out in this forum.nobody seems to give them much respect when they help out, but the other companies dont show up and try. gotta be worth something. spend the extra and support a supporter. Dan
Well I'm not sure if I said any thing bad about Dave's DUI products.
I'm sure they are great but if your on a tight a very tight budget like me I'm going to try to go with whats good and is cheaper. I would like a Dave's DUI but I cant afford it. So I'm going with what I can maybe I'll make my house payment late to help a supporter.
if you take that as a stab at a supported then well I'm Sorry Dan
This is why I don't like posting very often I all ways get some one saying I'm talking trash about a company but what ever dave's or proform go with what you can afford they will both work.
What is the big advantage to going with DUI as opposed to Proform?
I wish performance distibutors would come to this forum id be honored!
If they can make a case as to why theres are worth another 200 bucks
id buy from them.
but for 160 bucks proform seems to have a good reputation...shoot even my engine builder who builds high end motors day in and day out recommended the proform over
higher MSD ignitions...thats gotta say something? But im open minded!
no nomad, you did not say anything bad about perf dist, but had you actually done a search about the Hei conversions for Fords, you would have found the topic beaten to death. you would have also then noticed that they are usually casually dismissed and treated rather poorly by many of the old timers and others. i dont see them here nearly as often as they used to be and i cant blame them. i didnt say nor imply that you did bash them. i can see why you would feel the way you do about posting, you barely read my post and then jumped to conclusions, but hey whatever, no big deal. good luck with your conversion, watch out for the air cleaner, that will be a huge pain in the ..... sorry i cant tell you how to solve that one, for i still havent solved it for myself. Dan
I have the DUI setup in my 63 F100 and it made a world of difference in the way it runs over the Duraspark system that it replaced.
If the Proform ignition systems are anything like their cheap roller rockers and such, it won't last you very long. Cheap Chinese made stuff compared to quality American made parts. Same up a littlle longer and get a better set-up. You'll be thankful later.
Plus with the DUI, it will be precurved for your exact application.
Nobody said that you were bashing anybody, just trying to guide you towards better parts.
thanks for the back up Jimmy! Nomad and fordguy, jimmy just put my statement into better words, just trying to guide you to better parts. check out his link on the install, my install went the same way, except my 14' cleaner didnt clear. The Dui was a literal drop in, we didnt have to play with them. They asked us about our combination, and our plans and then sent out a distributor that dropped in and rocked. In my hot rodding world(mopars) proform has a horrible reputation for poor quality rockers, i would just have to make the jump and awesome there distributors are in the same league. there are a few of us here that have Dui's. either way it sure simplifies things having a hei set up. Dan
So im looking into an HEI setup for my new 302....
Im running into a Mallory, DUI, and Proform.
My engine builder recomended Proform.
Any of you Guys running HEI and have a opinion on the best
or another way to go in the same price range.
Thanks
Please note that our DUI's are:
1) Custom curved on a distributor machine based on your engine specs.
2) We have excellent tech support-each Distributor is issued an individual I.D. Number, so that if you change cams, pistons, etc., or want to put the DUI distributor in another motor in the future, you can call us with your ID number, have us pull your file, and then discuss whether or not you need to change your advance curve.
3) You talk to one of our employees-in Memphis, TN-not someone in another country. We are a family business that believes in the performance and racing industry
well i know this thread is old but know that perf dist has chimed in with his 3 selling points.... let me just say it isnt all talk. i thought i was having a problem(turns out it was just lack of experience with fords), they were all over my issue when i called. they were willing to take it back and check it over, they walked me through the entire deal. in fact it wouldnt be a stretch to say they literally bent over backwards. i will NEVER have another brand of ignition in any of my vehicles. thank you perf. dist.
