My tranny is acting up on me for the first time. Nothing leading to having a problem before. As my truck was getting up to speed, it started to tach at about 3K and didn't shift. Then all of a sudden it shift and I heard a clunk associated with it. As it continued to speed up to about 40 mph, it felt as if it fell out of gear (like putting the truck in neutral) and the rpm shot up. I pulled over and check the fluid, nothng out of the ordinary, fluid still red and not burned or smell burned. I took off again and it acted the same. If I gave it more gas it would shift to next gear or back into gear, but when I let off, it would shift out. I turned off the overdrive and it appeared to shift, but not like it should have. Needless to say, I was able to make it home. When I got home, I crawled under to see if there was anything obviously out of place or missing, nothing. I decided to let it cool down and see what would happen, well, now I do not have reverse and it is still acting the same. Any information, suggestions, and/or comments are welcomed. thanks JK appreciate the information. I have a tranny shop picking up the truck today. looks like having to ride to motocycle for a few days to a couple of weeks.

I've had it in the shop since friday(13th). Has to be rebuilt like you said and it was the sun gear shell. Should be ready by tomorrow. Thanks again for the info. Not cheap. Hopefully this will last for a long time or until I decide to trade up/down.

This is a lot more common failure on the newer transmissions with the stainless shell. I have a couple of them laying around where the spin weld gave up the ghost.
Sorry to hear. That is an expensive exercise for one part having a simple failure. But, you will be all rebuilt now and hopefully it will have a long life and serve you well. And as a bright side to this type of failure there fortunately shouldn't have been much of a mess if any to clean up that might cause a carry over failure. So it could have been much worse in that perspective.
