axle regear help

I have a 76 f-150 4x4, wanting to regear to accomidate 35 inch tires, ford 9 inch rear, dana 44 front. Don't really know much in this area, I'm thinking about goin for 4.56 or 4.88 not sure which. My question is do i want the nombers be be exact same front and rear? also how do I make sure i get the correct parts for my vehicle? not sure if my carrier is 3.07 or bigger, will my axle tag tell me this? also not sure how many splines my axles have. And i am confused about Dana, not sure if i have reverse cut or whatever. At 17 still a little wet behind ears, but wanting to learn

Ratios must be almost exactly the same. (4.10/4.11, 3.54/3.55, other slightly more different combo's ok) You can't run 3.55 and 3.91 for example, or 4.11/4.56. In a pinch to recover a vehicle from a remote location on mud or dirt roads, yea, but not in this situation.

Do you have a data plate on the door or door jamb of the truck? Numbers--all of them-- from axle tags can be decoded as well.

Correct parts can be had after you determine which axle you have.

This is north of $1500 or better you know. 31's looking better are they?

Your questions and other info would indicate this job is beyond your abilities. Setting up axles is not for the novice. Do you have an experienced mechanic to work with--someone who has set up axles, has the tools etc?

Yeah i'm set on tools, goin to school for diesel mechanics this fall, two of my uncles are real good mechanics as well. I'm good mechanically, but have never torn into a diff before, and looking forward to it. Plan to just get ring and pinion for front and rear, and appropriate bearings as well. is it okay to have exactly the same nombers ie: 4.56 front 4.56 rear?

Exact numbers are fine.

The 9 comes out and you work on the bench. The Dana stays in the truck, so a lift is handy--otherwise, pick your workplace with care so if it rains you're not in a river. Do the 9 first. Link to the 9:

Someone working on a 44:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/article/...lacement_.html

If you scroll up to the top of the page, under the three trucks, you will find a heading "Articles/Specs". Click on that, click "list articles", scroll down and find "transmission/axle". There are more on the 9, the Dana 60 and perhaps others.

Note the tools needed are in the article on the 9--dial indicator etc.

Check out adding a locker or LS while you're at it.

Plan it out. Get the buy-in from your help. Get your parts, and figure out a source of parts for backup if need be. Take your time. Good luck.
