i found a rebuilt e4od and torque converter on craigslist by my house for 200 dollars but this is what they said [The guy I bought the transmission from told me that it had been rebuilt. He put it back in his truck and said it shifted fine for awhile then it began shifting funny. I bought it as a rebuildable transmission. I have no use for it now so I am selling it as a rebuildable transmission. These transmissions are electronically controlled and I haved heard that the electronics could casue it to shift funny as well. I do not know if it works well or if it slips. Let me know if you are still interested.] would this be a good deal

If you're up to rebuilding it, that's a great core price.

Good price just to have it around as long as its a diesel trans and not for a gasser

Stock rebuild, I would guess 800-1000
Stock overhaul, I would guess 1000-1400
Performance rebuild, depending on level, 2500-5000.

It's alot of parts and labor.
btw, that 5k quote, I'm getting that figure from a guy who had his transmission stripped to a case, and every part replaced with billet, and custom drums to hold extra clutches. that transmission could hold more than the engine will ever survive to make.

oh ok so what do you guys think i think the torque converter alone is worth it plus the valve body

I'd definately buy it for that price,
but i'd be doing it for a DIY performance rebuild with parts from racerxautomotive.com.

Easy to spend 2k just for parts to build a good trans.(with tc)
Thats with no fancy intermediate and output shaft. (2k alone)

I think you could do a basic rebuild for 1000-1400.
Every time I look on RacerX's site, I end up with a $2900 shopping cart... But that's just me...

Agree.
This is with you rebuilding the unit.
JW and BTS use oem frictions.
Cannot recall what JF (rich69) uses.

Really? so would you say the extra clutch kits are unnecessary?
currently, my shopping cart usually has:
Extra clutch kit ($453 i think)
Armor kit with pump upgrade ($1100 or so)
Billet Input ($200 or so)
Billet output($800)
TC ($600)
Hardened shell ($25)
ESE ($100, not through Racer x)
Ok, so that's more like $3300...
I'm sure Most of what i've got there isn't necessary, But hell, if i've got it out, why not
