GPR or GP Issue?

I'm posting this for an older gentleman I work with. He has a '97 F250 extended cab, manual tranny, 4X4 PSD. He said his wait for start light had been shutting off after 15-20 seconds in the cold, but then one morning it took an entire minute for the wait to start light to go out. Each time it finally goes out, it starts great. The temps have been consistantly in the 20s. Would the ~40sec increase in time be the GPR? If so, is it the relay located next to the fuel filter under his flip up PSD cap?

The light is completely indendent of GP operation so its shouldn't be a concern

I'm new to owning a PSD myself... Why would his light stay on for up to 20sec in cold weather for the past 12 years and then, all of a sudden, stay on for one minute from that day on?

Only thing I can think of is maybe the oil temp sensor, on the HPOP reservoir has failed and is reporting extremely cold oil temp.

Would that also make his oil temp read lower when the motor is warmed up?

I'll be working with him today and will ask him some more questions.

Never have seen a WTS Lamp on for 60sec.
Maybe time moves slow while watching.

Now the guy says it's hard starting after the light goes out. It takes a lot longer for it to crank and when it finally starts, it stumbles pretty bad. After initial warm up, it runs great. When he restarts it after warm up, it starts and runs great. GPs, GPR or injectors?

as far as the WTS that really doesn't have anything to do with the GP. if you want to know when the GP wait for about 60-90sec you'll eventually here a click and see the volt guage jump up just a tad.

I'm not exactly sure about the stumbling at start up and longer cranking time except that mine does that when its real cold <10* and if i didn't have it plugged in. i'd check it for codes just to see if anything comes up.

AH .. makes some sense now. He probably waited maybe 20 seconds before and now waiting 60 before starting. Could be GP's or GPR and I certainly would check out the GPR first. If that checks out then do the ohm test on GP's.

OK thanks for your help. I'll let him know. If it's the GPR, should he just replace it with the one from Guzzle's site?
