Tint On Driver Side Mirror

Ive posted this on 2 other sites and still have no answer. How can I stop the drivers side mirror from tinting at night I cant see out off this mirror when backing up.I drive truck for a living and this is the first vehicle ive ever been in that does this.Dumb idea ford!Page 111 in the owners manual says the rear view mirror will return to normal when the truck is in reverse but this doesnt happen and it doesnt mention the drivers side mirror. Are the 2 mirrors linked together with this auto tint option? Can I pull a fuse, cut some wires or smash it with a hammer and get one from a 06?

07 model right?

the drivers premium mirror has the auto tint function. If we were closer together, I'd swap you mirrors. I've been wanting that setup, but I'm too cheap to do it.

back to your question. the auto dimming is powered. you need to remove the mirror "glass" and you'll see the power leads for the heater and the tinting. just cut the line for the auto dimming part and seal up the power wire so you don't short out

cut the wires like suggested or you can get a regular mirror without the dimming from another model year, look for them on ebay or carparts.com, or buy from an online Ford parts dealer.

I wish my Trailer Tow mirrors had that function. Seriously. Everyone has their headlights jacked around here.

My work truck ('09 F150 SCAB) has it, my personal truck ('06 SCAB) doesn't, it's an expensive option I wish mine had. I have about a million and a half CP in overhead spots on my work truck so the mirror stays dimmed all the time at night except on the road. On the road every idiot here seems to be in love with high beams or forget to readjust their headlights after lifting their truck so I really appreciate the self dimming mirrors. But then again my work truck also has a back up camera in the rear view so I use it more than the side mirrors anyway.

Kind of off topic but do all the trucks 04-08 have the wiring already there for the heat and dim options if I were to get upgraded mirrors

the dim option is a 2007+ model thing. Some of the 06 trucks might have the wiring though if they were built late in production

the wiring harnesses are kinda weird. It seems the XLT and up models have all the pigtails for every option already installed even if they aren't used

while the STX/XL models are a crapshoot if they have the pigtails of not

try popping your mirror off and see.
