I had to pull my heads because the heli coil I was trying to install feel into the motor. anyway head pulled and the piston head has two small gashes about a 16th deep each on it,
So how thick is the piston head and will it be ok or should I replace the piston?
Are all the pistons the same? most pistons have "indentations" forged in them from the factory(for valve clearance).......I havent personally pulled the head on my F-150 but in my experience with smaller foreign cars, these indentations are there.
Thanks for the clairification....These pistons are pretty beefy, but the call is yours. In the past when working on Mitsubishis,Ive seen plenty of piston damage due to timing belt breakage, and valves hitting the tops of the pistons, but have never had to replace a piston for the gashes...Personally i think you should be fine...but again thats a decision youll have to live with...

I wouldnt worry about it as long as there are no gashes or scratches in the cylinder walls from the chips. Hopefully they passed out the exhaust with out issue.
I guess it could, but I still have serious doubts that you have any major issue at all.If it would make you feel better, file em down, clean up any "drippins" and button it up.
