Pardon my N00bness.
Always been a Ford Truck owner.
Have had an 87 Bronco with the 351
An 86 Bronco with the straight 6 (you can always tell a true off roading Bronco by the condition of the upright door pillars right before the top)
Now I have the 86 F250 with the 460. (came with the full size in bed camper) at auction for 600.00
Looking through the forum I have already answered all the questions and problems I have with this truck so far. I feel like I should be paying you all. From the rear main seal leak... to the zf conversion... The rear end type..
Heres one though...
Truck is the F250 XLT and looking under the hood indicates that it came with all the extras for the bed camper that is has. (battery isolator, dual battery) The bed has the mount and lock points for the camper, yet my wife (and secretly me) get concerned about roll when entering and leaving parking lots. anyone know the amount of stress the bed bolts can take before popping? or am i just being a worry wart... (and no I am not hitting the corners hard)
Thanks for the wealth of information.. Here I am a techy type and never looked on the Internet for info.. (somehow I thought you needed a Chiltons manual for automotive...)
As long as the camper has proper tie-downs, dont worry about city driving. DO be wary of sharp turn at hi-way speeds and bad side winds. I have seen a 40 mph side wind put a Chevy with a camper on it, on its side while driving down the hi-way. Your braking distances are also increased, and with the 460, you might feel like driving much faster than you should. Keep it around 60mph for safety and mpg. Make sure you have good mirrors, be carefull backing up. Watch low branches and pulling around the gas pumps too, dont ask how I know.
i have a camper that i put into the back of my 460 f250 4x4,and take it offroading to get to secluded camp sights,or hunt camps.the truck is quite stable.campers are very top heavy and they do lean when you turn corners.i tie my camper to the frame of the truck with a belly bar,and feel safe fourwheeling with it in the bed. have fun
