My 4 wheel drive "on the fly" appears to not be engaging. I get light indications, and the transfer case seems to be operating. ( I can shift to 4 Low and it reponds). However, the auto/hub function is not. In order to get the front wheels to engage, I have to manually change the hubs to lock. I have read in other forums here that a possiblity is either motor or vacum (or both). I remember reading in a forum recently, that someone had a similar problem, but in addtition, their A/C did not work. They mentioned this because they felt both were vacum related..... My A/C does not work, so now I am wondering if there is any truth to the theory. Since my a/c works great in the winter.... I am more concerned to why the hubs are not engaging when I switch to 4 High. Thanks all.

Welcome to FTE Mr Dan! You should post this question in the 2004 - 2008 F-150 forum. Take a look at the vacuum lines that run along the firewall behind the battery. The vacuum relays for the 4WD system are located there too. If the battery is getting overcharged or there is corrosion on the battery otherwise, then the vacuum lines in that area tend to get eaten up by the acid. Could be where your trouble is. Good luck!
