Being the swap of my 302 to a 351 is nearing completion in my 1994 F-150 SC-4x4, I am assuming my entire exhaust system is also going to need a transfomation. Headers are basically a given, but how about some info on where to go from there! (P.S..I guess I'm still in denial about the computer, firing order, and harness differences!!)
are emmisionsa concern in your part of the country. if not i say forget the cats and just go dual 2-1/2 out the back with flowmasters. thats what i did with my truck (65f-100) and my mustang(87 5.0)
thats just my 2 cents.
It somewhat depends on what you have to work with. My headers collected to 2 1/4", so I ran that size pipe all the way back (true duals). To meet smog laws, I put on 2 12" long cats from DynoMax and then through a Flowmaster. Because I had dual tanks, I had to cross over to the passenger side at the transmission and run there until the rear axle where I crossed back over. Another option that still meets the smog requirements is to run through the cats and then eliminate the muffler.
i had an 85 f150
the easiest and cheapest way to run not pollution dual is to cross under the frame as close to the engine as possible and run it on the outside of the frame (unless you only have one fuel tank)then they arn't an issue.
and never run it out the back on a truck...thats car exhaust...i ran mine out b4 the rear tires with 4x24inch chrome boom tubes...(2 1/2 inch pipe) and i had 17 inch glasspacks for mufflers.
it made the 302 2bbl sound like a big block.
I came straight out of the cat with pipe and eliminated the muffler also, wasnt loud, sounded good. Now the bad news, inTexas ya gotta have a muffler to get an inspection sticker no matter if its loud or not, and yes there are places where they dont even look to see if ya got one or not, unfortunately the place i get min does. Just thought i would pass this along.
