Changing grill insert

I want to change from the honycomb style to the bar style. And keep the same chrome surround. It looks like this was a one time thing with ford cause as soon as you push the tabs they break. Does anyone know of any tricks of doing this swap? Thanks

if you don't care about saving the grille you're taking out, then it doesn't matter if you break the tabs.

I haven't heard of any tricks. I took my bar grille out in 2004 and broke a couple tabs. And then I helped my brother change his grille in 2008 and still broke a few tabs.

I didn't plan on keeping the stock insert so I didn't try too hard to prevent breaking mine. I probably broke three or four.

I have read that others have used a blow dryer or heat gun to heat up the tabs and make them easier to bend and prevent them from breaking.
