DTC question for y'all (Exhaust code)

Hey all, I have just recently had a CEL come on for the first time ever for me on the 6.0L, and want a little feedback as to how concerned I should be. In other words, I can't afford a trip to the service dept right now, and wan to know if it's OK to keep driving a while

The code (pays to have a friend with tuner-reader) is: P0470 - exhaust back pressure sensor circuit malfunction. So far, no loss of power or normal driveability noticed, seems like always have. Coming up a hill tonite, did seem like the tranny jumped on me, but think it could easily be an icy spot in the road also. I reset the code, but imagine it will come right back tomorrow. Can anyone tell me if there is a bad sensor that normally causes this code, or could it be more than that? Guessing this is outside the 100k engine warranty, and if so, how $$ bad will it be, or is it a part a reasonably handy person can swap, etc...?

Thanks for any help,
Geoff.

The 5 yr / 100k warranty coverage (per the manual, page 7) includes the following:
Engine and these components:
cylinder block
heads and all internal parts
intake and exhaust manifolds
timing gear
harmonic balancer
valve covers
oil pan and pump
water pump
fuel system (excluding fuel line and fuel tank)
high pressure lines
gaskets and seals
glow plugs
turbocharger
PCM
electronic driver unit
injectors
injection pressure sensor
high pressure oil regulator
exhaust backpressure regulator and sensor
camshaft position sensor
accelerator switch

I believe the EBP sensor is also part of the emissions warranty which menas you do not even need to pay the $100 deductible.

Let us know how it turns out.

Also:

Facing the side of the motor on the drivers side look at the font of the valve cover. On the drivers side you will see a tube coming up from the side of the valve cover. On the top of the tube you will see an electrical connector. That is the EBP sensor. Below the coolant reservoir and behind the master cylinder and mounted to the valve cover.

Wow! Thanks Mark for the detailed info, I could not find my 6.0 warranty manual, but that's nice to know it should be covered, and even better if the deductible does not apply... And the links help also, will take a look tomorrow (daylight).

Here's the odd thing -- after I pulled and cleared the code last night I expected it would pop back up today, but drove to work and back today and no CEL. Does that seem odd? Of course it was only one day driving, may come back on tomorrow again. When it came on before was when I was letting the thing idle on a pretty cold morning, probably 8 to 10 mins, a little longer than I would normally let it warm up, but it was single digits. Would that have caused the code?

Anyway, I'll keep an eye on it and let y'all know. If it comes back on I'll take 'er in since it appears to be a covered item

Geoff.
