I would like to know if everyone likes their box side steps. When I bought my Lariat I did not have them added. Also can you by them from the dealer and how much are they. Would also like do they collect a lot of mud and snow.
They came on my truck, I don't think I would have ordered them. But now that I have them, they work and if you have a gull wing style tool box their great. I can see myself using them much then you would think. They don't seem to collect any more mud or snow then the rest of the rear, one thing I don't like about this Ford is that the rear wheel wells do not have a splash shield like my former Dodge had. I can see all sorts of stuff getting caught in the springs/shocks (woods/hay fields). I have not found any aftermarket yet for them. Back to the steps they are $300+ when ordered with truck but I don't know how much at the parts counter. Chris

The autoblog.com write up did mention problems with the step with snow & ice.
They're a pretty expensive option and they're not very subtle. In fact, their design is questionable as the whole step has got to be at least 7" in horizontal depth.
Loading our trucks on a lowboy, the step is very close to getting wiped out. Out in the back roads, one can only speculate how long they'll last.

More great info but they're still a really cool idea.
