Strobes?

I was wondering if anyone had strobes on their truck. I am looking for the ones in the head and tail lights. Any suggestions on manufacturer, wattage, location, prices or places to install in SE PA.

Thanks

I have a Whelen 6 way set up, i think it's the 60watt system but i'm not positive. I have them in my heads and in my brake lights and reverse lights. It's a sweet set up and they are super bright, i went with the 4 in each taillight b/c i really don't want to have to use a beacon light as well. So far so good, i also ran my system thru the upfitter switches so switch 1 turns them on/off and i use switch 2 to toggle b/t the 9 different strobe patterns, it's money. Can't help you on a place to install in PA but i can tell you that AW Direct sells the Whelen systems at a fair price from what i have seen. Good luck!

Whelen's the way to go- I have an 8 strobe setup, plus some 8 super bright LED's.

The PA by Whelen also comes with an electronic air horn, so why not?

Depending what you are using them for, emergency operation or just show. If you are uing them ffor emergency operation then I would recomned the Whelen 90 watt strobes. You will be able to see them if you headlights ae on or your applying your brakes. When I build police cars and fire chiefs vehicles, I always install the 90 watt kit and never had an issue. All customers have been satisfied with this kit.

I am using them mostly for plowing. I was thinking amber all around but I was not sure how the amber would look in the break lights. I didn't know if they would look orange.

Again depends on what you use them for. When I put the plow on my truck I will put clear in the tail lights and amber in the front directionals. I think most are running clears though.

Really depends on the car and how **** you are. When I do a car or truck I prety much gut it so you will never see a wire. Sure it makes it hard to repair, I have never had a comeback and all my installs look as if it came from the factory. I would say dedicate the better part of a day to get it done right. Make sure to upgrade the stobe heads to the push in type. The screw in ones are more apt. to allow moisture in, and that will be a stobe lights biggest enemy. I will install clear in the rear and amber in the front when I do my own, and 90 watts ofcourse.

i have whelen 6 - 90watt bulbs... headlights, tailights and reverse lights. But i use mine for the fire department and i run clear. it only took me about 2 hours but i have done this many times. take your time and hang the wires nicely. and i reccomend put them in a loom because in my other super duty the wires wore down from rubbing on something and if one shorts out they all short out!

Check your local laws before you modify lighting on your truck. I got stopped right after I installed the three under the tailgate lights because I used amber instead of red.

i use this box.
Signal Vehicle RP906 Optimax
it is a lot cheaper than the whelen box, and works just as good. i have been using these boxes for over 8 years now, and never had a problem with any of the units. (i have done over 50 installs)
tube color depends on the color of the lens it is behind.
if it is going into a clear lens housing, i use an amber tube. if it is going into a colored lens, i use a clear tube.
as a rule, i do not put strobe tubes in headlights, because they will not be seen when the headlights are turned on.

The latest rage isn't strobe anymore- its LED. See Whelen for some cool stuff- they drive the bus when it comes to emergency lighting.

One thing to becareful of with the LEDs is they get super hot. If you put them in a tail light or the front marker light like on a SD you may melt the light itself. I have never used them however I have recieved some TSB's on these from Whelen regarding this issue.

Indeed- same for strobes, can't get the flash tube close to any plastic or it will melt.
