Another alternator question ?.....

Hello all, Im new here.......

I have a 89 F-150 4x4 with a 4.9 in it and its the Custom model, no a/c.....

Was looking to find out how many amps my alt is, its not stamped on it anywhere that I can see....

What size alt is suppose to be on this model truck?.....thanks.....

The majority were 65 amp output, with 75 being the optional higher output on a truck with lots of elec equipment such as power windows, seats, trailer tow, and A/C.

Wow, kind of thought it may have been more than that..lol..
Think Im going to need to go to a HO alt here soon....
Where can I look to find a drop-in at?.....thanks..

Or....check around your area and see if theres anywhere that rebuilds alternators....Its often cheaper to have yours rebuilt or upgrade to a locally built one than to buy a brand new off the shelf one...

I checked about having mine up graded, the guy said I could only get it up to 80 amps...

Why do you need more? I ran a plow on my 80 with just a 65amp, and it did fine, except I did have to set the idle speed up a little bit when I was plowing.

try a g3 130 amp, fordfuelinjection.com gives installation instruction. Your bracket has two settings. 50 bucks more, but power to spare.

The guy who rebuilds alts here said he couldnt get anymore than 80amps out of mine......
But he also said my alt is a 2g, the new style alt....


Wanted to up grade due to fooling with cb radios, ect here as a hobby....
