yes one for the starter and then one for all the electronics that i only want on when the key is on. so i have a 4 gauge wire off the batt to the solanoid and then 2 8 gauge wires one off each side to the solanoid to the aftermarket fuse box. and then i have the standard solanoid for the starter. but the one for the radio and what not will be on any time the key is in the on position, and the starter one is only on when cranking the truck...
you didnt notice that the aftermarket fuse box in where the heater should be? so i dont have a heater or fan or anything but my 4 windows and 2 vents...
i just thought that somone would say something about it..
this is very true, but i did live in Monterey Bay for 2 years with out anything and that wasnt to much fun. plus i have an 06 Focus so if it gets to hot or cold i can always just drive that...
Wow, fairly well done installation. So what you basically did was leave the stock wiring for normal lighting, ignition, alternator, and ran the switched hot to the solenoid for everything else? Really doesn't sound like a bad solution over ripping out and entire harness for an upgrade.
The only thing I'd be concerned about would be the solenoid, too, and what current it draws of the switch. Not sure, but I want to say some of them are rated to be fused upward of 30 amps. As far as the relays go, those must be universal/headlight relays. Pretty easy to get for reasonable prices, and they're typically good for 20-30 amps continuous.
One last concern... Are you using a stock alternator to power all of that equipment? I'd be afraid of pushing it for too much power.
so solenoid is a standard starter solenoid and has an 80 amp fuse before it, the fuse box is rated for 100 amps. the relays i am not concerned about. the alt is something i am looking to upgrade soon.
my dad got a new volt meter for his birth day and i think i am going to try to see how many amps all my stuff pulls if they are all on at the same time. it is something less then 80 amps as i have had them all on at one time and it didnt pop the fuse.
i have 14 off road lights, strobe lights, 7 inch screen, radio, cd changer, power inverter, PS2, review camara, and a hand held spot light running off of the power suply.
well i had all the wires from other projects, the fuse box was about 50, starter solenoid about 10, each relay was about maybe 5 or 10 (they were bought a while ago) and then i bought some of the bigger and other conectors for about 15. all my off road lights were free. 4 came with the roof rack, 4 came from an old neighbor, and 6 came from a friend that took them off his truck when he redid his lighting. the strobes are in the 200 range. switches are like 1 or 2 each. the rest of it i have had for so long that i cant remember how much they were. i know that i have bought at lest 40 worth of wire for the lights on the roof rack, and i got more wire in a kit with the relays (i could buy relay switch and wire for not much more then just the relay)i had 2 amps and 2 subs in the truck before so that is where the 4 and 8 gauge wire came from.
so beoynd that it is hard to put a price on this stuff. but in total i have at lest two or three grand or more probably in after market electronics in the truck, including the second battery, center console, CB radio, PA system, and everything
