Trans wiring
86 BR II ........ 89-90 A4LD was swapped in. 86 had a 2 wire TCC switch, 89-90 has a 3 wire switch. Someone tell me what to do to make this thing work right, please. It belongs to a friend and I'm trying to help him out.

You're going to have to get the diagrams and compare the pin-outs on the computers. Your options, to the best of my knowledge, are to either swap the TCC solenoid with one from an earlier model truck or swap the ECU and trans wiring from a later model truck. I can't remember, though, which ones had just the TCC solenoid and which ones also had the 3-4 shift solenoid (two solenoids) - or if any of them ever had both.

Got some diagrams today. The 86 has only the TCC solenoid. The 87-90 have the TCC and 3-4 Shift solenoids. The 86 did not show a Vehicle Speed Sensor pinned to the ECM so I think he S.O.L. unless the valve bodies or whatever can be switched to make the trans shift 3-4 by vacuum as the 86 did. I suggested he go talk to his transmission guy.

Sounds like a plan. Does his have cruise control? I can't remember where, but I have seen a write-up on tying that stuff in for a later model trans. swap. Not sure if you can adapt a newer transmission very easily, but I'm sure he'll find out soon enough.
