I have an 04 350. Ford just put a new reman in right at a 1000 mi ago, tech said everything was new, except the turbo and exauhst manifold. The other day i noticed a slight "hiccup" while idleing almost like its missin on one cylinder. When i took off, i didnt notice it while drivin and it didnt happen again till today. I did notice it up to about 1250 rpm this time, just a real small miss. Should be under warrenty, but dont feel like puttin the cat back in.lol Where should i start? I have a computer i can hook up, but what tests should i run. Thanks
There are a few options on this one, but the most likely is oil level.
I've found on both 6.0s I've owned that when they were filled right to the top of the stick they would do exactly what you are describing, when I filled them 1/2 way up the stick my idle problems went away. The logic behind this is that the pan is right full there is a tendency for the oil to froth a bit and this aeration can cause erratic idle. 1/2 way up the stick is actually the recommended level (see this article)
Another possibility is a problem with either the ICP sensor or the IPR valve. Unlikely on the new engine but not impossible.
Good luck, the intermittent rough idle can be a really frustrating symptom to diagnose.

Sorry to get a little off the topic but I read that article from DTS you recommended 04Xcursion, and had a question. I've always used Ford Motorcraft fluids and filters since buying my truck brand new with only 150 miles on it. I've often thought about switching to a synthetic oil or another brand of oil, fuel, and air filters that claim better filtration and more flow. Other members have told me that the Motorcraft air filter is more than adequate. I've already voided my warranty with a Edge chip and MBRP 4" straight pipes, so its not the warranty that keeps me putting the same fluids in. Whats you're opinion on filters and fluids?
He could probably sell it on ebay and still have enough to buy some sweet custom tunes, and the truck WILL thank you for it. I got mine used from a member here for $310 shipped and it was the best $310 I ever spent! I can't wait until spring gets here, I want to try the ASE tune!

Sell it on EBay huh? Thats a thought. OK so school me up on the SCT. I know it offers much more custom tunes and ways to personal tune instead of the 5 pre-programmed I have offered on the Edge. But what other benifits are there? What about the pyrometer that came with the Edge? I have a 6-speed and I'm looking more twords fuel economy and towing a 16ft trailer not blowing coal on the 1/4 mile.
SCT with custom tunes also programs your trans which others claim to do. Do a search on these things and make some popcorn, there's lots to read. I'm not trying to flame you or anything, but there are lots of guys here that have had other tuners and it cost them in the long run. There are also guys that have the other brands and claim to have had no problems. The SCT is the choice for the 6.0 for alot of good reasons.

Been there, had Banks Six Gun, blow head gaskets at 101k miles. No other issues though with it, and I turned it down, sold it on ebay, and now I'm HAPPILY running SCT X3.
You don't know how bad is your other brand tuner, until you drive the same truck with the SCT.

I have 70K miles on my truck right now and blown head gasket is EXACTLY what I'm worried about
