Fordsdowner,
Are you the original owner of the truck? The reason that I ask is that if you have 50K mi. on it, and there has been work done in the past that required draining of the cooling system (headgaskets, egr or oil cooler, etc.), then the "crud" might not be present due to the fact that much of it might already has been flushed with the coolant removal.
I had my coolant flushed by the dealer then a month later the truck went back in for head gaskets. Then I installed the coolant filter. My first filter change was probably around 1000 miles or so and it was packed full of crud. I was amazed at how much dirt and sand was in the system after the coolant was drained 2 times. This is an excellent mod.
I know that shops use an agitating machine for coolant systems. This electrical machine also hooks up to a water hose and an air line. I believe it is designed to "flush" the radiator but if the thermostat was removed I think this would be a good method of agitating the crud out of the block and all the components. This device works well but the thermostat would have to be taken out temporarily.
Just a suggestion for those with 'cruddy engines'.

Sounds interesting... but my Ford dealer here in the Kansas City area just drops the lower radiator hose (drains) and refills. Maybe they do it twice, I do not know, but even when they do tranny services, they just do the ol' drain the pan, change the external filter and refill.
Personally, I do my own cooling system flushes so I can use distilled water (the dealer only uses tap water... and most do). I do take my truck to them for the tranny service, but I opt for the "flush" instead of the drain and refill.

Nope, I bought used with 35k. The truck had a clean Oasis then. The dealer I purchased it from had a deep history of service from the previous owner who I also know. I am fully confident that I am not being cheated.
Beachbumcook has some very good points and I will do just that. Put more miles on it and see what she does.
It did only take a month to collect the first 500.
