Counterclockwise is the thing to remember. A friend of mine is a chebby guy, but the one ford he has (an f100 w/ 360) he put new spark plugs and wires on and couldn't figure out why it wouldnt run. the firing order was right, but it was wired clockwise.
When doing a tune up your not sitting in the drivers seat.So while looking at the motor ford= #1 leftside GM #1 rightside=driverside

Look boy, you are not the center of the universe. All references to the vehicle are referenced from the drivers seat, ALWAYS. The left side of the car is alway the left side of the car. Your total lack of any real knowledge of the automotive industry just came scream out into the light. FYI, this also applies to airplanes, boats, motorcycles and on and on and ....................
Gee if i don't cross every T and dot every i you bring out the text "reference" book on me. For my lack of text book statement info as noted facing the motor..Us old school guys will die this way.

It is NOT tech book stuff. This is every day life stuff. The left side of the car and anything in or on the car doesn't change it's reference because you move and/or change your prospective. The left side is always the left side whether you are in front, back or standing on your head. Instead of learning you're arguing which means you won't learn. People like you are why bad info is still floating around.
Look boy, someone has to do it, so i'll take the credit for all of it and let you correct my bad miss leading statements that, I have posted or will post.
This will be fun. Gee, I'm just and old country boy that some people want to tell me that they know better and learn there ways... But i'll just stay in my little "center of the universe", Thanks, I kind of like that statement..

You better have been collecting Social Security for real long while to call me boy. I've been both a city boy and a county boy in my life and incorrect is always incorrect, city, country or anywhere else. I seem to never learn one lesson though, "Never argue with an idiot, as they will pull you down to their level and beat you with experience."
Not necesarily. The #1 can be wherever you want it to be, depending on the position of the distributer...
The number #1 cylinder has nothing to do with the distributor, position or rotation. It is about engine design layout. And in the automotive industry, world wide, the cylinder closest to the front of the engine is always NUMBER 1.
