This reminds me of last winter. I UPS semi was stuck on the rail road tracks. I was pulling out of our local store and saw him stuck in the snow on the tracks. I thought a train was no doubt going to come. I had the plow on my Ex and tried to push him. I have hide a way strobes in my tail lights and front turns, which i had turned on as the rear on my truck was hanging out in a major road. Well it drew the attention of a local cop. he was blocking traffic for me and i worked and worked at pushing him.......and low and behold.....i got him off the tracks......i couldnt belive it!!! Wish i had some photos
Probably not a good idea to use reverse when snatching someone out of a mess. Someone more knowledgeable than me will correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the whole reverse system in the trans is weaker than 1st gear.
Actually main issue would be pulling on the coast side of the ring gear.....I know people who have had failures from that.
Going forward you use the drive side of the gear....much better engagement/strength.

A good friend told me that earlier. Learn something new everyday.

You already told me that Lesson learned, you're a good friend
He was pulling out of an alley with a big dip. The wheels the drivetrain supplies power to were off the ground due to a sharp drop off at the driveway entrance. The front wheels (the ones that do the turning) were on the street and the second rear axle of the semi were on the sidewalk, thus stranding the drive wheels in the air.
Pheww, I hope that makes sense...it's been a long day.
