Actualy my 64 f100 W/ 292 gets 13 towing. I know a few people w/ 2500 6.0 chevys. comparable loads they get 9 to 11 mpg. Obama has his head up his A**.

Hot rod ran a theoretical article about this a while back. A old vehicle in proper tune is still more efficent than burning up a P/U every 10 years.
The 80's stuff seems to be disappearing faster than the surviving 60's and 70's rides. Maybe they rust faster?
They were certainly made more cheaply. Furthermore, and with few exceptions, they also had much less design elegance (and thus less staying power in that regard) than earlier cars.
