I have a clunk noise coming from my front end. I notice it on bumps, which most michigan roads feel like a rough dirt road!!! Even at real low speeds of 5 mph you can hear it.
Any suggestions??
The ball joints were just replaced, I did one wheel baring last summer, the other one I checked out yesterday and looked good. Tie rods look good.....what else could it be?? I was thinking maybe one of the shocks, but it dont really sound like that.
You bet i will check them before I buy. I just have to wait until the wife gets home so she can watch the baby and then i can check them.
I bet that is what it is though.
I will know shortly!!
I'd also check the clearance between the rubber bumpers above your front leaf springs and the frame. When I first got my X there was only about a 1/2 inch of clearance and I swear the suspension was bottoming out over the slightest of road imperfections. I ended up replacing front and rear leaf springs with F250 springs mostly because of towing issues but that made the clunk go away. Excursion springs are known for being weak and do tend to give up some clearance over time.
One way you can check to see if it's the sway bar links is to take them off and drive the truck to see if the sound goes away. Thats what I did before I bought them. I have had two trucks with the same sound and both need new links. I hope this work for you.
