I have a 2000 Ranger 4.0 4x4 AT 78,000
The truck has been well taken care of and never had any problems.
To the problem, I had two lights that went out in my cluster behind my tach and fuel gauges. I went in and changed the lights that I got from Ford. I did not disconnect the plugs in the cluster and did not have the battery disconnected, I know bone head and will pay for it now. Once I got every thing back in place the tach did not work properly and some other gauges were acting funny. I also checked fuses on the instrument cluster and they were fine. I am not sure where to go from here the tach was screwing with the alternator and causing my battery to drain. any thoughts would be greatly appreciated...
Is the computer circuit board that fragile if you touch it?
Have you checked the plugs/connectors on the back of the panel? They may have loosened up when you pulled the panel out to replace the bulbs. Poor connections to the panel might be causing the problems you are having.
Yes, I did go back in and make sure that the harnesses were in completely. I am afraid I may have damaged the circuit paper, or pulled the black wire wire that takes care of the tach or something else. The speedometer was working, but the tach was not and I think gave the alternator problems causing the battery to drain.
Did you pulll any plugs that were attached to the cluster when you did this?? I replaced bulbs in the entire instument cluster, and didn't have any problems, but I did disconnect the panel before I replaced anything..If I didn't pull the plugs off the panel, I could never have replaced the bulbs, as it wouldn't come out far enough to get my mitts on them..You're not supposed to touch the circuits or the solder lines on these boards, as the oil in your skin screws up the board.....
