Gauge swap

I have searched and went thru what posts I could find on swapping out gauge clusters, but am still unsure about my options. I have a 82 F100 with idiot lights and no tach. I can pick up a gauge cluster from a 86 with all the gauges and tach. Is this a easy swap or is there a lot of rewiring involved. This is my daily and cant have it down for any length of time. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

From idiot lights to gauges is not a plug-and-play swap, the harness connectors are physically different and there is additional wiring for the gauges-cluster.

IOW it's not easily changed.

Just fyi, I have the 1981 EVTM up on my web site now, and this section covers the gauges. Here are the idiot lights. And this section has the pin outs of the two different instrument cluster connectors - idiot lights vs gauges.

Thank you all for the help. I would love to get rid off the idiot lights, but not while I have to use the truck for my daily. I am going to grab the tilt column out of the 86 and switch it out in the spring.

Thanks again for all your help
