Recently brought home a 74' f250 trailer special. Spent some spare time cleaning her up. Put a carter afb on it I had laying around, because the 2 barrel with the adapter plate to the 4 bbl intake just looked ridiculus. I put a battery in it, hooked up a few other misc things. Now here is where the problem arose. I get'er all ready to go, put in the key, lights come on, hit the key to turn it over. And NADA. Nothing. No clicks, no sound at all, acts like I hadn't even turned the key. My friend suggested that the motor is seized. Which I really hope isn't true....
check the solenoid on the fender beside the battery
tap on it, on the top, with a screwdriver handle.....may be stuck
check if the wires are connected, pos bat one side other to starter and the small wires that power the coil in the solenoid to actuate it
Pull the wire off the 'S' terminal of the solenoid, and check it for voltage with a meter or a test light while a buddy turns the key to start. You first need to check that your solenoid is getting a signal from the ignition switch. My first guess at your problem is a blown fusible link or bad NSS (neutral safety switch), but post back your results from the test I just described. We need to find where the signal is getting axed, or if it's even there to begin with.
If the motor isn't even turning over yet, no one can say the motor is seized. Your friend doesn't know what he's doing; I'd suggest not letting him work on your vehicle. Unfortunately, a lot of people come to this site with a story that starts out with "I let my buddy rebuild my carburetor, and ..."
I'm headed out to the shop to tinker with the truck. No, I have not heard it run. I just brought it home last weekend. It was last licensed in 2006. The 2 bbl was crammed full of pine needles lol. I will return with the fruit of my efforts later this evening.
My friend that was over workin on it with me, is actually a certifed diesel mechanic. and is the guy I usually call with questions. I hope you are right about him and he doesn't know what hes talking about.
And I myself have several "I let my buddy" stories... One including a broken water pump bolt, a dewalt drill, and water in the first cylinder of my 200 ci in the 66 mustang I was tinkering with at the time.
Back with results shortly.
Thanks for the warm welcome =D
I'm happy to be here and plan on sharing the journey to my trucks completion with you all.
So.... I went out to the truck. Took along my test light, a pair of pliers, and a wrench. I turned on the key, and tried all of the functions that require the ignition to be on such as the wipers and blinkers. Both worked so I assumed the igniton switch is fine. I tested the S terminal as suggested by fmc, nothing. I smacked the solenoid around a lil bit with my pliers. Re-tested with my light. BINGO! Finally, getting somewhere. So then I jumped the solenoid. Sparks flew and the starter clicked away, while the motor did nothing. I then went to the toolbox, got out my 15/16" box wrench and tried turning the lower pulley by hand. Absolutely solid. Not even a slight amount of movement.
id guess that mice have filled your engine with nesting material, dropping and mouse ****. It's likely they packed the carb with pine needles to seal the nest shut. I'd pull heads off and take a look! good luck

x2. sounds like mice or some type of animals made a home inside the carb and maybe the engine, too.
