well if you assume 15% yes it limits you to 6k, but if you go with 10% which is still in you window then you're good to almost 9000. i don't see any problem with that especially with equalizer and sway control. assuming you know how to drive, driving that setup will never be problem.(not even suggesting you don't)

Pose a related Question.

I need to move a 671 pound motorcycle. If I found a carrier strong enough for my bike would my 2005 Eddie Bower Expedition support the bike sitting on the hitch?

I mean the bike weighs less than the 895 lb rated hitch so why wouldn't it?

The 895 is with a weight distributing hitch, your motorcycle with be straight on the ball which is rated for 500-600 I think.

All the chat related to factory ratings and capacities.... we all need to remind ourselves that these ratings are for when the truck WAS BRAND-NEW. As anything, stuff becomes tired, old, worn and their capabilities will degrade......

gpineau,
Your '05 Expy is 12 years old....how worn out and/or corroded are the hitch and where it attaches to the frame?

Questions on limit

2012 expedition xlt, HD tow package. Picked up a 2005 chaparral 236 sunseta, Phoenix trailer dual axle with surge brakes. Trailer is 5800 lbs boat is rated at 4400...seems high. What would my tongue weight be? Anyways, towed it home 150 miles with no issues. Truck is level and brakes and starts off the line fine...I won't be buying a new truck however for towing so if I can bump up towing capacity, is there a way? Thanks

1) There is no way to change the tow RATING of your vehicle. Cannot be done.
2) take the trailer to the scales and weigh it, there is no reasonable way to estimate the tongue weight over the internet.
