With gas prices lower I decied I want to build up my a 460 that i got laying around and drop it in my 77 f150.
My plan
Holley Carb(CFM Undecied)
Weiand stealth intake
Heads:
D3 heads, smooth out the ports
Stock size intake and exhaust valves
Stock pedalstal rockers
Arp head bolts
new valves, springs, retainers ,etc.
Block;
460 block .030 over
Keith black flat tops(10.1 to 1 comp with 92cc heads)
COMP Cams CL34-247-4 (or a little bigger)
new push rods
Stock rods with Arp bolts
Stock crank
Arp main bolts
New oil pump
All clevite 77 series bearings
Thats all for perfomance parts. gaskets, freeze plugs etc will be high quality parts but thats pretty obvious.
I don't know out the flat tops ? Do you really want to lock yourself into the expensive gas ? It could go up to $4 a galon anytime in the future. Maby run the dished and good old 87.
With that can, your gonna need new springs and get them set up for the right spring height. What's the final overal purpose you want this truck to do? Be a stock rebuild, torque monster, Screamin HP machine? It's all gonna depend on that before you throw parts into build.
As for the rods, if you have the football style truck rods, they are known to be able to handle up to 600hp/6000rpm with no problems. Any more than that and you really want to swap them out, so for your build you should be fine.
