Thanks for the info guys... I did do some reading on the 2700 and it does seem like it is quite the pos from what everyone has said.
Hey big blue what size metering rods and jets did you use on your qjet if you remember? Also what elevation are you at? Thanks
It is the choice I have made, and can't wait to try it out. You can find a rebuildable core on ebay for about $60, and either rebuild it yourself for a $30.00 kit, or send it to Pony carbs and have them completely set it up to your engine for $289.00.
Don't recall what rods & jets I used offhand. I do know stock SBC QJet tune is a little bit rich for a 300. The secondaries also open way too early. Off the top of my head, on the primary side I'd say 2 sizes smaller on the jets, and one size smaller on the rods to lean it out across the board. Secondaries could probably go for larger rods (fixed jets), but play with the opening timing first. Washington DC is a swamp, so I'm not more than a few hundred feet above sea level. I got my qjet rebuilt from National Carburetors for $210. Nice job- clean, new bushings, epoxy sealer in all the right places, etc..
FWIW, this is NOT the Dual Port. It is the Offy 360. Offenhauser replaced this with the C-Series manifold. Look closely at the carb flange - all holes go to the same depth. Also, not shown in the original 3 picture but clearly shown in some of the later pictures, the ports at the head are not divided.
So if this is only a single port with a divider in it... Then will that hurt my low end torque any? It hasn't came in the mail yet so I have no way of telling. Also would this allow me to use a two barrel?
What f100jim said...I didn't notice the later pics. It will most likely allow the use of a 2v with an adapter and no, there won't be any perceivable difference in the torque.
Well I got her all put back together this weekend with the help of my dad. The difference in power is unbelievable.... I ended up getting a motorcraft 2150 with the 1.21 venturis from my local junk man for a six pack. We put a kit in it and works pretty good other than it idles down a little slow... I had to do a little notching on the frame to get it to fit and a lil on the alternator bracket. We ran the pipe from the header 4 feet back and put a dual 2 1/4" inlet and outlet edelbrock sdt muffler on it. I'm gonna have the exhaust shop run the rest. I'll try and post some pics tommorrow.
