taking cat off

I just got a dual exhaust, only from the muffler back. It is a single in, dual out muffler. I still want more sound, so I am going to take the rear cat off and just clamp on some larger pipe to fit where the cat was, and switch it back for emmissions. Just wonder, but if the cat is not in use for those two years, will it still work when I put it back on?

I'm no expert on emmisions, but I have an emisions inspection licensce for Pennsylvania. Depending on how strict your state is on emmissions you truck could pass without it. If your vehicle just gets an idle test then the cat really isnt worth putting back on. But if, like in PA, your vehicle has to be run on dynomometer it will probably be easier to pass with it on. In PA a vehicle also gets a visual inspection, to check to see if everything is there. A cat is one of the items checked.
Check with one of the mechanics at your local garage performing the test, to check on the regulations in your state.

Throw that cat along with your muffler in the scrap pile.
