Everyone on this forum is talking about punched out cats....
I understand that their talking about hollowing out the cats to produce better flow.... BUT will it still pass emissions testing... Will I see or fell any performance improvments from punching out the cats???? I've looked at mine, and this would be no easy task.... Should I cut off the pipe right before and after the cats to allow for easy access???? Now if I do this, wouldn't it be a dead give away at inspection time????
Please help I'm working on a budget... I'm married...!
If you hollow out your cat, it will not pass emissions testing. no way no how. Your vehicle was designed to run with all emissions equipment in place, as long as all equipment is working you should have no problems I would think.

As an alternative, some race shops can supply you with a switched "bypass" pipe. These are not necessarily "street legal", but allow you to run your cat and muffler or (depending on installation) bypass the cat, muffler, or both. Most often used on "street legal" drag vehicles, e.g. you drive with the bypass disengaged to the track, then switch the cutouts to run straight out.
Here in the Midwest (NE) it's legal, even in the cities, to have these installed, but illegal to use them on the street. Of course, we don't have mandatory emissions checks, either.
On Board Diagnostics II. Began with the 96 model year. Basically an "improved" engine control/diagnostics system which is significantly more modofication resistant than the preceding ODB-I.
