Emmision testing with out cats

I see alot of people writing about removing the cat(s) from there trucks. What about emmisions? I live in NY where they test the emmisions from all speeds on a dyno. In states that test using this method I would think that a vehicle would fail. Are the tricks around this?

If you remove your cat you will not pass emission test.

Us folks that remove cats live in rural areas where there is no testing, and little to no emmission laws. Thus, we can get away with it. Y'all can't.

It's more like no enforcement of emmissions laws. The laws are Federal so no matter where you are they still apply. Any 1996 or newer vehicle that has OBD II wil have problems because the computer can tell if the cat is working or not. It will trip the check engine light. You can tell if you have a complete OBD II system by the O2 sensor after the cat. If you have one you shouldn't remove the cat. The cats today aren't like the crappy ones of the late 70's. They are free flowing in design. I took my cat off my 99 V10 Superduty to see the difference with/without. There was none! I could hold the cat up to the light and see right through it. I put it back on.

Thanks. I probably just keep the thing on. I do not need to create any problems for myself. Thanks for the info...

lol. No computer stuff on here, chief. My cat knowledge is from my '82 F-150. Basically, kill the cat fore it kills you. The damn thing fell apart and clogged one side of my dual exhaust to the point where almost no exhaust could get through. If I wouldn't have caught it, it could have ruined my engine ..... evil cat! Evil cat is now in the pipe vice being beaten daily . I wouldn't do a lot of messin with the cat on any EFI vehicles. Them 'puters is a little particular.

Oh yeah. Let me clarify something from my earlier statement. By emmissions laws, I was speaking of laws that require a mandatory test. I guess this would fall under enforcement, but since they are technically laws, well, there ya go.
It'd be hard to justify that here though due to the fairly low level of pullution and seeing as this county ain't got the wealthiest residents (in top 3 counties in IL for unemployment rate) and about 75% of the vehicles would fail a basic emmissions test. We ain't tryin to kill the earth, just can't afford to blow money on stuff to make our vehicles "eco-friendly" when we're just tryin to keep gas in em.

crazy_goodolboy-
Thanks for the laugh. I would love to "Kill the cats before they kill me" I probable would have to kill all my "puters" too. New York State would want to kill me after all that. I guess there is only so much you can do with EFI and cats. Ohh well
